School Site Council Meeting 2/26

The Raymond-Knowles School Site Council held their first meeting of the year this Tuesday.  Mrs. Townsend was voted to be chairperson.  Mrs. Tune was elected vice-chairperson, and Mrs. Hutchings was voted Secretary.

The group analyzed the results of the Parent/Guardian surveys that were sent out in January.  The group has decided to focus attention on three specific areas that were identified by the results of the survey: developing critical thinking, developing respect for others, and communicating clear expectations for behavior that are consistently and fairly enforced.

In addition, the group was given a copy of our current Title I Parent Involvement Policy.  This policy will be reviewed and updated at the next meeting.

The next meeting of the school site council is scheduled for March 12th at 3:00 in the library.  If you have any comments or suggestions for either of these plans, please feel free to contact me or any other member of the school site council.  You are also welcome to attend this, or any, school site council meeting.

  1. How many people do you think actually look at this blog? I know that we are putting the info on the blog and I think that is great - but do you know how many people are actually reading it? The posting of what goes on at our meetings is part of Section 2.2. But if they don't access it - then it's not being met. We need to get more people on the blog and we also need to get them to be able to establish a dialog with other parents and with the staff. So, if we teach the parents how to get an account so that they can post comments and then maybe establish a dialog so that ideas can be generated. That would be very nice and very helpful. Also, how many of the staff look and read these blogs? This would enhance some more parent participation.

What I am trying to say is that it would be really good to have a forum where we, as parents, can post questions or comments and we can have the parent community (or the raymond community) be able to air out concerns or questions. But somehow keep it civil and without vitriol.

With regards to Part II section 6. Are we using the Title I funds to fund the 2nd grade classroom? If so, what will happen when the Day school has to be used and we lose the 2nd grade teacher to go over there? Are those also Title I funds that fund that classroom?

Part III - Section 10.2 Do we or have we had training for being able to read the Renaissance Learning products for parents? If not, how do we propose doing that if it is in the plan?

    All else looks good.
